Namaste. It’s sounds beautiful doesn’t it? It brings to mind a feeling of release. It’s being at the end of an exhausting yoga class when the breathing stills, the pulse slows. The muscles no longer shaking from the intensity of the pose, can now relax. The teacher bows and says, “Namaste.” The word literally means “I bow to you.” But, in my understanding it’s more than that. It’s like, because of our shared humanity, we carry the “spark” of the DIVINE. Both of us, by our nature, are permanently and indelibly inked with the fingerprint of GOD. So we pause. We take a moment and we honor that spark within each other. That’s my take on it anyways.
Unfortunately, the other 99% of time I seldom think about the “spark”. Like most people, I am easily distracted by the attractive. I think about nice smiles and wavy hair and broad shoulders. I think about beautiful people with beautiful things. It’s very easy to forget about the spark. In case you haven’t heard, us gays have a reputation of being, well…a bit superficial…a bit flakey…a bit, dare-we-say, self absorbed. And hey, no hate mail please. When I say “us gays,” mostly I mean THIS gay. So, how in this culture of beautiful people on smart phones and computer screens do we find the ONE.
Ultimately I believe we all started out looking for the One. Unfortunately, our HEARTS get broken and our skin gets tough and we settle for Mr. Right Now. Don’t get me wrong, Mr. Right Now has his place, right next to fast food and ice cream. But at the end of the day, he’s EMPTY calories. (And sometime he gives you a drippy penis.)
In my experience…and I have a LOT, it starts by re-imagining Mr. Right. Maybe he’s not all tan and toned with a square jaw. Maybe Mr. Right is an artist who sees BEAUTY where none exists and recreates it for you on a canvas. Maybe he’s a VISIONARY who sees a better world and needs your help to work out the details. My point is this. When you find him you will know. He will will be the KEY and you will be the LOCK and as a whole you will be GREATER than the sum of each part.
So, I wish I could tell you how to find the ONE. I know some great people who have searched for years. I know some who have even stopped searching. I would tell you don’t give up. The world is full of people who could be your Mr. Right. OPEN YOUR HEART. Pursue your passion. Like an onion, the soul has many layers. When you invest the time to peel it, layer by layer, you might be surprised by what lies within, and the attraction that ensues.
